What is a gateway?
The gateway is a special node in a network that governs the transition between networks and grants or prevents access. With it the protocol of one network can be translated to the protocol of the other. One can imagine it like this, that for example the Internet consists of a number of individual networks. This is your own local network, the one of you internet service provider, and the networks of organizations and companies.
Each network is autonomous in itself, and the transition from one network to the next has to be regulated. Such a transition will take place from your local network to the one of your access provider, then it is passed („routed“) to the destination where your request eventually flows into the network of the company or the supplier and provokes a response.
What is a firewall?
A firewall („fire wall“) is a security tool to control the transfer of data over a network and restrict to the allowed. Of interest is particularly the data transfer between your local network and the public internet, because unauthorized access from outside and unauthorized transmission from the inside has to be stopped to protect your private data.
Basically, it controls which program might use which port to transmit data. A computer connected to the Internet uses connections at port 80 and 443 („are opened“) because they are the ports for HTTP (1.0, 1.1) and HTTPS (secure HTTP). If you want to download your email via POP3, you need to open port 110 (POP3), and port 25 (SMTP) to send mail and so on.
What is DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)?
DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. It is used to supply participating network devices automatically and dynamically with the required configuration, especially the IP address.
The assignment of addresses using DHCP requires a DHCP server. This can be a separate device, but is often a program or system service on a computer in the network. This server is started at the first or runs continuously. A network can be managed by multiple DHCP servers.

What is a MAC-address?
A MAC (Media Access Control) address identifies a network adapter, such as the Ethernet card in your computer.
The number is 48 bits or 64 bits long and is in hexadecimal notation, represented byte for byte. The first 24 bit carry a description of the manufacturer, the other 24 bits or 40 bits carry a manufacturer-numbering (or serial). Its usage is described in RFC 5342.
What is DNS and dynamic DNS?
Dynamic DNS is a special case of the DNS.
DNS
DNS stands for Domain Name System. It is one of the most important services on the network in general, and implements the mapping of names to IP addresses.
As you know, each network subscriber requires an unique address, the IP address. This is currently four, in the future sixteen numbers long and thus not easy to remember for people .
Therefore people use the name of the machine to address it.
